Famoso Pizzeria & Bar will open on Friday, August 11th in Sopa Square at 3030 Pandosy Street. The franchise is owned and operated by Seth Carlyle and Liz Markulin who have relocated from Jasper where they also operated a Famoso. The soft yet crispy thin crust pizzas are hand tossed by their Pizzaiolos, then fire-baked in an authentic bell-shaped oven imported from Italy for 90 seconds at 900 degrees F. The tomatoes come from the Campania region of Italy and a highly refined ’00’ flour is used. All pizzas are topped with foir-di-latte which is a fresh mozzarella cheese that has a mild milky flavour and creamy texture. Along with a huge selection of pizzas they offer appetizers, soup, salads, pasta, fire bread sandwiches, desserts and an extensive drink menu. All sauces and dips are crafted in-house. Executive Chef Derek Benitez has joined the team at Sunset Ranch Golf and Country Club. Originally from Ottawa, where he won Ottawa Gold Medal Plates in 2004, Derek moved to Kelowna five years ago. Management changes in the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group in our area. Karl Johnston will be the new general manager of the Kelowna/Vernon Division effective September 15. He will be taking over the management of the three radio stations in the Okanagan cluster from Stu Crouse who is retiring at the end of September. Karl has spent the last 16 years in Saskatchewan as GM/GSM of the Pattison stations.

Speaking of the Hudson’s Bay, former Kelowna manager Rein Nurmsoo who is now the Vernon manager is celebrating his 40 anniversary with the company. In April, Rein received the General Manager of the Year Award for Hudson’s Bay.

Parkrun Okanagan started by Bill Justus has been in existence for one year meeting on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. behind Parkinson Rec Centre. August 19th will be their 53rd free timed 5K in Kelowna. Runner’s total 505 and the number of 5K to date runs are 2,301. Numbers of first finishers is 47 with 24 clubs and 494 PBs. The average number of runners is 47 per week and the average number of runs per runner is 4.6. Their largest attendance was 108. They will have 37 people from around the globe visit for the Parkrun on August 12. There are now 10 Parkruns in Canada. For more info contact Bill at [email protected].
